Angel Fire woke up cold and quiet on Thursday morning, with a temperature of 29 degrees, mostly cloudy skies early, and no weather alerts in effect for the Moreno Valley. The clouds are expected to give way to mostly sunny skies, with an afternoon high near 49 degrees and light north winds. Tonight will be partly cloudy and cold, with a low near 21 degrees, so anyone heading out after sunset, which comes at 5:00 p.m., should plan on a warm coat and gloves.
On the mountain, Angel Fire Resort is reporting a quiet start to November. The resort's snow report shows no new snow in the past 24 hours, a snow depth of 4 inches, and a season total of 7 inches so far. Those are early, pre-season numbers, and the resort is not yet open for skiing or snowboarding. With no precipitation in the forecast through the weekend, the snow on the mountain will hold largely as it is while the resort continues preparing for winter.
Opening day is now five weeks away. Angel Fire Resort opens for the winter season on Friday, December 11, with lifts running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Opening day lift tickets are priced at 19.66 dollars in honor of the resort's 60th anniversary, and members and passholders get an early preview on December 10. The season is scheduled to run through March 21, 2027, and the new Angel Express, New Mexico's first high-speed six-person chairlift, makes its debut this winter. The resort has also confirmed that there will be no night skiing during the 2026-27 season, so ski days will run on daytime hours.
The most time-sensitive date on the calendar is November 11. Season passes are at their best price through that day, with an adult pass at 789 dollars through November 11 before the price rises to 889 dollars on November 12. Anyone who knows they will ski Angel Fire this winter will save real money by buying before the deadline rather than waiting until the snow improves.
Until the lifts open, this is a dressing-in-layers week in the valley. The golf course closed for the season on November 1, and the forecast ahead is dry and gradually warmer, with sunshine and highs of 52 degrees on Saturday, 55 degrees on Sunday, and near 60 degrees on Monday. Mornings will stay well below freezing, so trails and valley walks are best enjoyed after the sun has had time to warm the ground, and drivers should watch for frost on shaded roads early in the day.
